A brand-new experience: 2 Days 1 Night Road Trip 🚐🏕 Plus, we’re sharing the best Japan photo spots you don’t want to miss! This route is super popular with Japanese campers too.The highlight of this trip is Lake Motosu, one of the five lakes surrounding Mt. Fuji. We absolutely loved it — so peaceful, quiet, and with very few tourists. Next, we’ll take you to the latest photo spots at Lake Yamanaka, there is new viewing point and an IG-worthy location that social media lovers will love to visit.

For this trip, we rented a campervan from Roam & Roll Campervan, which is based in Tokyo. We’ll share more details in this article.

This was actually our first time sleeping in a campervan in Japan, and waking up to Mt. Fuji right in front of us, sipping coffee while taking in the view —that’s pure happiness beyond words.

The best part of camper van road trip is that you can stop and rest anywhere along the way. When you come across a stunning view, you can easily find a nearby spot to park the campervan and take photos anytime. This spot was so beautiful that we just had to stop!

For this camper van trip, we rented from https://www.roamandrollcampervan.com/ or reach out to them via their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Roam.n.Roll.

The model we chose is called Nami, a campervan that’s perfect for two people. From the outside, it looks like a large van and it has a cool color tone that gives it style. Inside, the campervan fully equipped with everything you need — including running water with a sink, a refrigerator, and a dining table that can be folded away. The bed is a good size and very comfortable.

What we also really liked is that the campervan has plenty of storage space. For people like us who pack a lot, it has many compartments, and even large suitcases fit without any worries.

The cutest soda water we bought from the tourist information center at Lake Motosu — holding it up with Mount Fuji in the background made it look even more adorable!

For this campervan road trip, we started by picking up our campervan from Tokyo and drove out of the city to Kouan Campground, which we had booked in advance through their website. This campsite offers spacious grounds where you can park your camper van or pitch a tent for an overnight stay. It’s divided into two zones — lake and forest — but most camper vans park by the lake.

The site is well equipped with toilets, coin-operated showers, and areas to wash your cooking equipments, making it super convenient for beginner campers like us.

We arrived in the late afternoon. Mount Fuji had a few clouds at the top, but it was still incredibly beautiful.

The bed, in the campervan, is spacious and comfy for two people, and no need to worry about the cold because the camper van comes with a heater. All the camping gear — table, chairs, gas stove, and kitchen utensils — is provided, so you don’t need to bring your own. Super chill! Just stock up on food and you’re all set.

The sun was setting beautifully, so we set up our camera to capture a timelapse. The lighting was just perfect. Most of the people we saw camping here were Japanese. As the sky grew darker, they started lighting campfires and cooking their dinner.

And we were so lucky that night — the sky was completely clear, filled with countless beautiful stars. I’m sure if you were here looking at this view like we did, you’d fall in love with this place too.

After enjoying coffee and toasted bread while taking in the breathtaking view of Mount Fuji from Lake Motosu, we drove on to Lake Yamanaka, which took about an hour. Our first stop there was Panorama Dai lookout, a newly opened viewpoint where you can see Mount Fuji up close from a high vantage point. The area features a wide wooden terrace where you can stroll around and take panoramic photos to your heart’s content.

I recommend hiking up the hill behind the parking lot, where there’s a trail on the side. At the top, you’ll find a golden grass field with an incredible view that’s just as stunning. It offers a totally different mood and vibe.

Our next spot, not far from there, is Yamanakako Communication Plaza Kirara. It has a long wooden bridge perfect for walking and taking photos. We think it would be even more beautiful if Mount Fuji is visible. Parking here costs 300 yen per car.

When we visited in second week of April, the cherry blossoms were still just buds. But if you come when they’re in full bloom, it must be absolutely stunning — with Mount Fuji as the backdrop.

Most visitors to this lake come to take photos with the swans. At Hirano Beach, you can rent boats — both kayaks and canoes — and paddle around the lake. The swans often swim by to say hello.

This was a 2 Days 1 Night campervan road trip to two lakes near Mount Fuji that we found absolutely beautiful with amazing vibes. If you want to try a new experience and get up close to Fuji — from sunset to sunrise, stargazing with Mount Fuji views like we did — try renting a camper van from Roam and Roll Campervan. It’s so much fun and has become one of our most unforgettable trips in Japan.
