First time renting a campervan in Japan and honestly, it was much easier than we expected! The owner is Singaporean, speaks great Chinese, and explained everything clearly, so even beginners like us felt comfortable hitting the road right away.
For this 4-day, 3-night adventure around Mt. Fuji, we rented the Nami Campervan and explored some of the most beautiful camping spots in the area. Waking up to Mt. Fuji right outside the van window was seriously unforgettable
Our route included:
Fumotoppara Campground
Fujiyoshida Roadside Station
Koan Campground
Each location had a completely different vibe — from wide open grass fields with panoramic Fuji views, to peaceful lakeside camping surrounded by nature.
One of the craziest parts of the trip was experiencing a sudden snowstorm during spring! Luckily, the next morning the skies cleared and we got to see Mt. Fuji completely covered in fresh snow. It honestly looked unreal.
We also loved how flexible campervan travel was in Japan. We could stop by supermarkets for ingredients, cook simple meals, relax at roadside stations, and enjoy hot onsens after a cold day outdoors. It felt like having a tiny moving home throughout the trip
If you’re thinking about doing a Japan road trip around Fuji, highly recommend trying a campervan at least once — especially if you enjoy nature, freedom, and slow travel.
