Planning a campervan Japan road trip? We've answered the most common questions our customers ask before booking with Roam & Roll Campervan Japan. Whether you're travelling in summer or winter, this guide will help you prepare for your adventure.
1. Is mileage unlimited?
Yes!
All Roam & Roll campervan rentals include unlimited mileage, so you can explore Japan without worrying about extra distance charges.
Whether you're driving from Tokyo to Mt. Fuji, the Japanese Alps, Tohoku, Hokkaido (via ferry), Kyushu, or anywhere else in Japan, there are no mileage restrictions.
2. Are there any additional charges?
Our quotation includes all mandatory rental charges, so there are no hidden fees.
The only additional costs you may incur are:
Fuel
Expressway tolls
Campsite fees
Parking fees (if applicable)
Optional add-ons you choose
Equipment included by campervan model
Mori, Soyo & Nami
All of these campervans include everything you need for camping, including:
Hotel-quality bedding
Refrigerator
Gas stove
Cooking set
Pots and pans
Plates, bowls and cutlery
Camping table and chairs

Poka Mini
The Poka Mini is designed for travellers who prefer a compact, easy-to-drive campervan for exploring cities and scenic roads.
To maximise interior space, it does not include the full camping cooking set as standard. If you plan to cook during your trip, a camping set can be rented as an optional add-on.
Instead, the Poka Mini comes equipped with:
Microwave
Microwave-safe cups and tableware
Refrigerator
Comfortable bed
It's perfect for travellers who enjoy buying delicious meals from Japanese convenience stores or supermarkets and heating them up for a quick and easy meal on the road.
3. Do your campervans have air conditioning?
Yes.
Every campervan has factory air conditioning while driving.
However, like most campervans in Japan, there is no built-in air conditioner that runs overnight while parked. For summer camping, we also offer an optional portable air conditioner for hire.
4. Do your campervans have a heater?
Yes.
Every campervan includes an FF Heater, allowing you to stay warm throughout the night without running the engine.
Perfect for:
Winter camping
Ski trips
Mt. Fuji
Japanese Alps
Hokkaido
5. How long does the house battery last?
All campervans are equipped with a dedicated auxiliary battery.
It powers:
Refrigerator
Interior lighting
USB charging ports
Roof ventilation fan
Water pump
Most travellers can comfortably use these systems for 1–2 days without connecting to external power.
We recommend driving around 2–3 hours every couple of days or connecting to shore power at campsites. Campervan Battery & FF Heater Guide in Japan | Roam and Roll Renter Tips
6. Can I connect the campervan to electricity at campsites?
Yes.
Every campervan includes:
External shore power connection
Shore power cable
Many Japanese RV parks provide electrical hookups, allowing you to recharge the auxiliary battery and use onboard electrical appliances.
7. Is cooking equipment included?
Yes.
Mori, Soyo and Nami

Gas stove
Gas canister
Frying pan
Pot
Plates
Bowls

Most travellers either bring their own towels or purchase one after arriving in Japan.
10. Can two people drive?
Absolutely.
We include up to two registered drivers free of charge.
Both drivers simply need to provide the required driving documents before pickup.
11. Do I need an International Driving Permit?
This depends on your country.
Examples include:
Singapore → 1949 International Driving Permit
Australia → 1949 International Driving Permit
Canada → 1949 International Driving Permit
USA → 1949 International Driving Permit
Taiwan → Official Japanese licence translation
France → International Driving Permit

If you're unsure, simply contact us and we'll confirm the correct documents.
12. How does the ETC card work?
Every campervan is equipped with an ETC device for Japan's expressways.
You can rent an ETC card for ¥600 per rental.
Simply drive through the ETC lanes without stopping. After your trip, we'll calculate the total expressway tolls, and the charges can be settled when you return the campervan or deducted from your refundable security deposit.
Using an ETC card makes travelling on Japan's expressways much quicker and more convenient.
13. What insurance is included?
All rentals include comprehensive insurance.
Maximum customer liability: ¥580,000
You can reduce this to: ¥260,000
by purchasing our optional insurance for: ¥5,500 per day
We also recommend purchasing travel insurance that covers rental vehicle excess.
14. What is the security deposit?
A refundable security deposit of: ¥100,000 per vehicle
is collected before departure.
It is refunded after the campervan is returned in good condition.
15. Can I go skiing with your campervans?
Absolutely.
Our winter-ready campervans include:
Mori
Soyo
Nami
All include:
4WD
Snow tyres
